State prosecutor from Arizona Mark Brnovich, whose family is originally from Montenegro, said to Pobjeda daily that Montenegro demonstrated courage by joining NATO.
He added that the membership in NATO is a signal of independence and freedom.
“Economic prosperity requires rule of law and consistent application of legislation”, he said for Pobjeda.
Brnovich is a member of the Republic Party and a friend of former US president candidate John McCain.
He visited Montenegro 7 years ago for the first time.
“I am very proud and happy that Montenegro is independent again. I like these people, they are so hospitable and open. We sometimes forget to enjoy the life in the West”, Brnovich said.
According to him, there needs to be a balance between tourism and economic development.
“Montenegro has a unique character, and has a rich heritage. If I could be a small part of it and contribute in promoting Montenegro in the world, I will do it”, he said.
Montenegro became a member of NATO on June 5th. Brnovich explained how important that is for a small country such as Montenegro, considering challenges we are facing.
“If you want to preserve your independence you must be sure that your allies are progressive. NATO is important as a signal of Montenegro’s future, of independence, freedom and EU standards”, he said.
American senator John McCain was a strong proponent of Montenegro’s membership in NATO. He spoke of Russian influence in the US Senate.
“John McCain is my friend, and we support each other. He enjoys a lot of respect both in the US and in the world”, Brnovich said.
