The state seizes Marovic’s apartment

The Podgorica High Court received a request from the Special Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) to permanently take away an apartment owned by a former official of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Svetozar Marovic, the court conformed to CdM.

Marovic bought the apartment in Budva in 1991 and gave it to Zoran Mugosa as collateral for a €500,000 borrowing. Since Svetozar did not return the debt, and Mugosa took the apartment.

The property of the former high-ranking DPS official was returned to him in 2013.

“Given that it is the apartment Svetozar bought in 1991, we think it is undisputed that he obtained it legally. In this proceeding, the prosecutor pointed out that he acquired the apartment in 2013 based on a contract with Zoran Mugosa. However, this pledge right, which was a loan guarantee, has never been executed. Marovic paid the debt off in 2013, and then Mugosa gave a statement confirming that the loan was settled,” attorney Dimitrije Dapcevic told CdM.

As a reminder, the High Court temporarily seized the entire property of Svetozar Marovic, his wife Djordjina, his son Milos and his family.

The court accepted the request of the Special State Prosecutor’s Office to freeze the property until the results of the financial investigation were announced. The property includes numerous apartments, houses and land that were acquired by criminal activities.
