In this workers association they think that it is necessary to make a registry of professional diseases and that stress should be defined as one of them.
„The reason for this is that we are witnesses that high and long-term unemployment, fear from losing the job, unsecure forms of labour, struggle for survival in the time of crisis as well as increasing demands from the workers, for very low salaries, can cause an every day stress which definitely leaves a mark on employees”, explained Ivana Mihajlovic, legal advisor of the Union.
Mihajlovic said that an “alarmingly” big number of employees had health problems caused by stress despite the fact that, as USSCG found out, there are no official statistical data for this. She said that matters of protection and health at work are one of the main points of focus for USSCG, and that should also be one of the primary topics for relevant institutions of the system, but primarily for employers.
Mihajlovic explained that the Rule book for determining professional diseases defines 56 professional diseases. Those are diseases caused by chemicals, poisoning by metals, gas, dissolvents and pesticides, then diseases caused by physical impact or biological factors, and also diseases of lungs, skin, and malignant diseases.
In ministry of labour and social care they think that Montenegro, by implementing a set of related laws, created adequate legal circumstances for the workers to be safe at their jobs.
„We think that Montenegro, normatively speaking, created a foundation for increase in efficiency of protection and health of employees, but due to rapid changes in technological processes, on social and other levels it is necessary to continuously adjust one’s actions in the area of protection and health at work, in both expert and legal framewok”, it was said to Pobjeda from this institution.
