Support measures won’t be effective if they aren’t adopted duly

Predrag Mitrović

If Government fails to put forward a set of support measures in due time, they won’t have any effect, said president of the administrative board of the Employers’ Union, Mr Predrgar Mitrović.

“The biggest problem comes when something isn’t done in right time. Don’t give an umbrella tomorrow, when the sun will be shining. Give me an umbrella today when I need it because it’s raining. The same goes for measures. Without proper dynamics and speed, they won’t be effective”, Mr Mitrović said.

He pointed at the possibility of dismissals due to the current coronavirus crisis.

According to him, support of the banking system is very bad.

“Delay for three months and then you pay through the nose when the moratorium is out of force”.

The Government should adopt the second package of measures until the end of the week.

“Even if measures are presented now, until they are put in practice several weeks will pass. Such sluggishness in circumstances where social and economic situation is exponentially complex, it is very important to ask ourselves whether decision-makers have mechanism to prevent terrible consequences”, Mr Mitrović said.

The first package of measures was adopted on 19 March but they came into force later.

Also, measure referring to the delay of the repayment of loans started on 23 March. The measure has been harshly criticized due to the fact that citizens haven’t been explained that interest during the moratorium will be charged as well.

Agriculture measures in preparation

Prime Minister Duško Marković formed last week working group in charge of proposing set of measures. The procedure is expected to be finished by the end of this week.

In forthcoming days, measures in the area of agriculture are expected to be adopted too.
