Tax Administration authorities are carrying out controls on operational activities of experts of different domains in order to establish if there have been any abuses concerning VAT. According to Dan, Tax Administration has taken the documentation from several experts who tried to explain that they are not obliged to pay VAT as it would be a double payment considering that the fees they get from courts are taxed.
The fact that the law is not very strict when it comes to VAT evasion is regarded as direct impact on their work.
Regardless of their explanations, several sources have confirmed that experts will be obliged to pay VAT according to lawyers’ model.
Apart from that, they will be obliged to pay taxes, surtaxes and contributions.
Dan wrote earlier that experts of different professions “were paid €4,1 million on the grounds of engagement by courts and prosecutor’s office without a single cent of VAT”.
VAT is charged for compensations amounting to over €18.000 per year. Experts cited additional work for which they are not obliged to pay tax as the main reason for evading VAT payment. This is quite unusual if we know that lawyers, who have their own chamber, are obliged to pay VAT.
Apart from the medical experts who have had most profit, the highest paid experts are those in construction domain and experts for telecommunications.
An expert in the area of electronics, Mr Predrag Boljević, has been paid €84.523 for courts and prosecutor’s office. An expert in the field of protection from fires and explosion, Mr Radovan Popović, has received €78.883, whereas Mr Milenko Popović, expert in economics and finances, has been paid €65.000.
None of them has been registered for VAT payment.
