Ten to Eight – Attack on Šofro

You are reading a daily contextual review of the news that marked the previous day.

By Ljubomir Filipović, CdM observer

On Saturday night, at the reception of the young Montenegrin boxer Petar Liješević, a nationalist party was organized, at which the DF MP Slaven Radunović was one of the politicians. The renowned RTCG sports journalist Nebojša Šofranac also came to the airport to wait for Mr Liješević. Mr Šafranac was insulted and ridiculed by the crowd that was there. This behavior was condemned by most of Šofranac‘s colleagues; condemnations came from the President of the state, from Minister Srzentić and Minister Sekulović, the PEN Center, as well as from the general public. Two people were summoned for questioning, and one person who insulted Mr Šofranac most actively and most bluntly and recorded it all with a camera, is suspected of working at the ministry headed by Ms Vesna Bratić.

Agreement after signing

After it was announced that the Fundamental Agreement with the state of Montenegro would be signed by the patriarch on behalf of the Serbian Orthodox Church, numerous reactions were provoked, including a reminder that Metropolitan Amfilohije was explicitly against signing and negotiating with Belgrade. The idea of naming the “Orthodox Church in Montenegro” instead of the Serbian Orthodox Church was also rejected. Bishop Joanikije, who keeps a picture of King Aleksandar in his office, obviously has less reverence for the uniqueness of Montenegro than the late Metropolitan had.

The former president of the Constitutional Court Blagota Mitrić believes that the fact that the Fundamental Agreement is signed by the state of Montenegro and the national church of a foreign state is disputable. After Joanikije‘s statement that the Agreement will be known only after the signing, numerous politicians reacted, including Mr Miodrag Lekić, who asked for the text of the Agreement to be published. After the pressure, URA also announced that it was now requesting publication, even though its leader Dritan Abazović had already accepted the blind Agreement.

At the same time, Minister Vladimir Leposavić has not been fired yet, but a few more things are expected to be completed, and if is up to Mr Andrija Mandić, Minister Leposavić and the Prime Minister will be reconciled.

Attacks on convoys

The patriotic convoys are now organised regularly on Sundays. Yesterday, people organized all over Montenegro, and again they were provoked and attacked in almost every city. A minor incident took place in Podgorica, and a larger conflict was avoided in Bijela, where, according to local portals, the Herceg Novi speaker of parliament Mr Samardžić also attended the unpleasant scenes.

Corruption in Budva

During the tour of the Serbian World the mayor of Budva Bato Carević insulted Montenegro and Montenegrins on Mr Vučić‘s TV. In addition, he admitted that he bribed the former government. After this, the coalition partners from the Democrats publicly asked him to whom and when he gave the money. The Democrats used to call Mr Carević a “mafia toady” and an associate of Mr Svetozar Marović. The local DPS reacted as well as Budva’s URA. They woke up and remembered that something was wrong, when they were excluded from the coalition. I assume that this is how Mr Filip Adžić will remember that he is a Montenegrin, once URA is no longer need at the state level.

Criticizing Abazović

The Human Rights Action (HRA) reacted to pressure on the court by DPM Dritan Abazović who criticized the decision of the investigating judge of the High Court in Podgorica Miroslav Bašović who didn’t order detention for persons marked as members of the Kavač clan. A similar reaction followed from the Association of Judges of Montenegro, which strongly condemned it.

Europe criticizing

All changes concerning the legislation should be made after an exhaustive discussion of all decision-makers, the chairman of the parliamentary delegation of the EP in Montenegro Vladimir Bilčik told RTCG. After the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Stabilization and Association, Mr Bilčik said that it was important to appoint Montenegro’s ambassador to the European Union as soon as possible, form an organized negotiating team and commit to resolving practical issues that don’t raise tensions but solve citizens’ problems.

Miscellaneous

Read a detailed analysis of the situation in diplomacy carried out by Pobjeda. I have information that journalists of pro-government media, as well as controversial businessmen from the region, have been appointed as special envoys of the Minister. It will be interesting to see if that is true.

Party-affiliated recruitment. Since the formation of the new Government, almost 400 new people have been employed in public administration, mostly in the education and health sectors, and 56 in management positions.

CdM has started cooperation with the Montenegrin writer Andrej Nikolaidis, and Ostrich Strategy as the first column is proof of the announcement of a good, fruitful and long-term relationship.

That’s it for today. See you tomorrow at the same time in the same place.
