Gabriel Escobar’s title sounds long and it does not reflect the essence in our language, nor does it explain his position to the end. Deputy Assistant Secretary of the United States – why is he important and why is he especially important to us? The role of the United States as the only superpower is very important for world stability and security, and its withdrawal during the Trump administration proved that the most.
Because of this importance and role, its diplomatic network is very large and diversified. The various special and geographical units are covered by Undersecretaries and Assistant Secretaries. Assistant secretaries are in charge of certain geographical units. The Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia has a Deputy in charge of the Western Balkans, and that is Mr. Escobar. He is simply the direct head of all ambassadors in the region, and he makes sure that the messages of American foreign policy are coherent and coordinated at the regional level, which is the most important thing at the moment, having in mind all the security challenges that are accumulating.
That is why Mr. Eskobar first visited Bosnia, after which he came to us, and continues his visit further on. An interesting thing happened yesterday, rare in diplomatic practice. President Djukanovic’s cabinet, i.e. the chief, Miodrag Radovic, reacted to the tweet of the American embassy, which was published immediately after the meeting with President Djukanovic, and which put “ingrained corruption” in Montenegro in the foreground. Namely, this tweet produced a reaction from the opposition, which read a message about President Djukanovic in it. The most creative in interpreting the tweet, as well as everything in life, was Nebojsa Medojevic, who said that Escobar told President Djukanovic to withdraw and resign, and to support the minority government composed of URA and minorities, headed by Dritan Abazovic. This is something that URA also talks about on the sidelines, because it must not do it in public, although this party’s deputy leader Jovana Marovic gave a hint in her yesterday’s tweet “that she knows something more”.
President Djukanovic’s Cabinet issued its statement yesterday, which has a form of a joint statement with Escobar.
Insufficiently clear and concise messages of diplomats leave the public room for different interpretations, and for spreading misinformation. The same thing happened during Abazovic’s visit to America.
The American diplomat is to meet today with PM Zdravko Krivokapic and Parliament Speaker Aleks Becic.
Constitutional revolt in Cetinje
If Mr. Ratko Knezevic had not published a photo with DPM Abazovic in Zagreb, that visit would have gone almost unnoticed. Mr. Knezevic probably helped Abazovic to be a guest on HRT’s show hosted by Bolkovic, where he again showed that he leaps before he looks, so he made nebulous accusations about the protesters in Cetinje, said that DF was “a bit of a right-wing option” and other nonsense from his repertoire.
Ambassador Thimonier’s Belgrade mind
Ambassador Thimonier is the first active ambassador of France to Montenegro. Until now, the diplomatic representatives of this country have had the role of silent observers. However, Thimonier had an opinion on Montenegro and did not hesitate to announce it while he was in Belgrade. Now, by commenting on the Chetniks and Partisans, he is proving again that he is looking at what is happening in Montenegro through the prism of Belgrade. I just hope that he does not think that we should apply the same medicine to solve the problem of the gap “between Chetniks and Partisans”, i.e. equalization, rehabilitation and pension for Chetniks.
What is important, however, is that he said that he was disappointed with the government because even after a year, they have not shown the will and strength to deal with real problems.
Montenegro as Serb Republic
The priority of the Montenegrin government, whoever may it be, should be the unconditional fulfillment of requirements and membership in the EU, as soon as possible. Montenegro needs a government that can provide that because it is in its national interest, said the executive director of CEMI Zlatko Vujovic during Gradski TV’s Rujna Zora morning show.
“If this parliamentary majority stays in Montenegro for the next four to eight years, it is clear what awaits us. We are to face the construction of a new Serbian nation-state – the Serb Republic, that is, a radicalized state creation that will harness all state resources to collapse the value system that leads us to the EU”, Vujovic warned.
Tougher measures due to the pandemic raging
While tourist organizations these days boast about regional music stars who will entertain guests at the squares of coastal cities for the New Year, the coronavirus epidemic is taking lives every day.Minister of Health Jelena Borovinic Bojovic is also aware of this, so she told Vijesti TV that the Government Covid Commission is still considering whether and under what conditions it will allow these concerts to be held. She said that there is a possibility that these events will be canceled.
That’s it for today. See you tomorrow in the same place, at the same time.
