The SDP staff are an exception – not Draginja – but those who are ready to sell us this ethnic corporatism as a civic concept.
Kadic was not elected for procedural reasons, but the government’s intentions are clear.
Pro-choice and Pro-life finally in Montenegro
Montenegro is a pre-political society in which the tribalism of political groups is still expressed in the categories of ethnic and perceived ethnic. In other words, we are divided into political tribes according to which nation we belong or according to which nation we think we belong to. Ideological topics such as the green and fossil economy, workers’ rights and fiscal policy are far from the attention of the public and politicians. However, one of the current topics, especially in American politics, is trending in Montenegro these days. So far, there have been talks about selective abortions, when parents decide to terminate a pregnancy in the case when the fetus is of an unwanted sex, most often a female. Now the public has been discussing the very nature of abortion, and hosting the priest of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Gojko Perovic, on RTCG provoked a fierce reaction from the public.
Even before this show, a part of the public thought that he wasn’t competent to speak on this topic. While I’m personally bothered with the fact that the public broadcaster, RTCG, takes the SOC as the supreme religious authority on the topic of religious education and now abortion, thus discriminating against other religious communities, I believe that the freedom of speech should exist on this topic as well. Religious communities should be able to publicly express their position on this topic, no matter how much we disagree with that position.
To deprive them of this right is a hate speech in the public. Like the one about ‘infanticide’ and so on. Freedom of speech doesn’t apply to such outbursts.
In Montenegro, the right of women to decide on their body is regulated by law and when it comes to the unwanted pregnancy, it’s been applied from the times of socialism. A religious community has the right to interpret morals in its own way for its believers. Imposing and attempting to ban abortion by legal solutions is another matter. It’s an introduction to the clericalization of society.
Motorway to be finished in July?
Deputy Prime Minister for the regional development and Capital Investments Minister, Ervin Ibrahimovic, is optimistic and says that Montenegro citizens and tourists will be able to drive along the first motorway section soon. However, he couldn’t tell the exact date.
“I’d say in the next 50 days or so. Over 99.5% of works have been completed, there’s not much to finish, but I cannot tell the exact date,“ Ibrahimovic told while speaking in a TV show ‘Good Morning Montenegro’ aired on the public broadcaster, RTCG.
Montenegrin soldiers in NATO mission
The Defense and Security Council submitted to the Assembly a Draft Decision on sending up to 20 members of the Army of Montenegro to the forces of the North Atlantic Alliance in order to respond to the crisis. The council approved the proposal at its session on May 12.
Vesna Medenica’s detention extended
The Special State Prosecutor’s Office submitted a proposal to the High Court in Podgorica to extend the detention of former Supreme Court President, Vesna Medenica, for another two months, TV Vijesti reported.
