Thermal Power Plant in Pljevlja won’t be functioning for three months in a year

Preliminary design of the ecological reconstruction of the existing block of the thermal power plant should be finished by the end of March, said the representatives of the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG).

“After that, all segments of the reconstruction will be technically specified. This will be a pre-requisite for inviting public tender for the design, installation and execution of works”.

Contract for the preparation of preliminary design, worth € 665 thousand was signed in March last year.

“The plan is that annual stoppages during the reconstruction do not exceed two to three months. In that context, works will mostly be carried out simultaneously with the production process. In case some stoppages last longer than predicted, our Directorate for Electricity Management will be duly informed, so that the necessary electricity can be imported”, said Luka Jovanović.

Ecological reconstruction of the first block entails construction of facilities for desulfurisation, denitrification and waste water treatment, reconstruction of the auxiliary boiling station and facilities for draining clinker and ash, as well as the construction of the refrigerated tower.

Electric power Company of Montenegro provided € 40 million for these purposes. The project will be carried out with full respect of the EU directives.

“EPCG will also invest € 20 million for the continuation of the use and reclamation of the spoil bank in Maljevac”, explained Jovanović and said that the reclamation will be performed in phases.

Completion of this project will significantly reduce gas emission. The reconstructed block will function in accordance with the Directive 2010/75/EU on Industrial Emissions.

“Considering that Germany announced that they would use coal up to 2038, the plans of EPCG that the block functions for the next 20 years are real and grounded. In addition, this will secure continuous functioning of the complex Thermal Power Plant and the Coal Mine in Pljevlja”, said Jovanović.
