This morning’s rather strong earthquake that hit Montenegro was followed by a series of about 30 weaker ones, Milena Tomanovic, head of the Seismology Department of the Hydrometeorology Institute, said at a press conference. She emphasized that this showed that seismicity had been triggered and added that the further situation would be monitored.
An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale was recorded this morning at 4:06 a.m.
The epicenter of the earthquake was 5 kilometers southwest of the town of Caradje, about 30 kilometers from Niksic, on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
For now, there are no reports from the field whether there was major material damage.
Tomanovic announced that we live in a dangerous area and added that it is impossible to predict whether a stronger earthquake could hit Montenegro.
