These are the three pillars of future Montenegro-EBRD cooperation

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) wants to support Montenegro through projects that would increase private sector competitiveness, investments in infrastructure as well as in the area of green economy, EBRD representatives, headed by the EBRD Board of Directors representative for Montenegro Heinz Kaufmann, said at a meeting with prime minister Dusko Markovic.

These three pillars of future Strategy of EBRD’s cooperation with Montenegro, which is to be adopted soon, are complementary with the objectives of the government of Montenegro, the PM said.

Markovic called in mind that the development and social growth were priorities in the government’s work and that there was intention to achieve 3.2% economic growth this year.

“He pointed out that borrowings are planned for development and capital projects and not for current spending. In this context, he particularly emphasised projects in the field of tourism, energy, road infrastructure and agriculture,” the government stated.

The meeting also highlighted the potential of linking agriculture and tourism, which in the opinion of Markovic, Montenegro has enormous potential.

The PM expressed his gratitude for the excellent cooperation and great support from the EBRD to the country development through €508m invested through 54 projects.

In addition to economic and structural reforms that are important for the creation of better living conditions, the officials particularly emphasised the importance of integration into the EU and NATO, which are important for the preservation of peace and stability not only in Montenegro, but also the region and Europe.
