Tivat: Big fire above Kava, firefighters are working with difficulties due to wind

The fire continued to spread towards the hill of Vrmac and Dumidran, and firefighters have been trying to put it under control from several sides.

Complete personnel and fleet of the Tivat-based Protection and Rescue Service have been engaged in extinguishing the fire. They have been helped by members of the Kotor firefighting unit and DVD Krtoli. Local people have also been helping firefighters.

Wind has made the action more difficult, enhancing the flames which engulfed the pine forest on the slopes of Vrmac.

According to the information gained at about 8PM, Tivat firefighters were keeping the fire under control in the area of Kava and watering the ground, whereas Kotor firefighters were extinguished the fire near the church of St Agatha in the area of Mrcevac with three fire trucks. Members of the DVD Krtoli were in the higher parts of the settlements of Dumidran and Gradiosnica with two vehicles.

Firefighters from Herceg Novi also helped them with one vehicle. The President of the Municipality of Tivat, Ivan Novosel, arrived to the fire area at about 7.30PM.

According to the weather forecast, a strong wind has been expected during the night, so the members of the firefighting services from the Bay of Kotor have been prepared to prevent the spread of fire towards settlements, particularly towards Dumidran.
