According to the opinion of management of the Pljevlja Coal Mine presented in the 2020 business report, any stopping of a thermal energy chain in Montenegro would mean that Montenegro has to import electricity worth €100m a year, Dnevne Novine daily reports.
According to them, the coronavirus pandemic has indicated significance of the Coal Mine and TPP Pljevlja for the stability of the country.
On the other hand, any stopping of the thermal energy chain would lead to a risky position, that is, energy instability, considering the role of the base energy producer that this system has.
The total production of electricity in 2020 amounted to 3,126 GWh, while the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant had the largest share with 47.58 percent, followed by Perućica Hydroelectric Power Plant with 21.50 percent, Piva Hydroelectric Power Plant with 21.03 percent, wind power plants 9.82 percent and small power plants with 0.07 percent.
