“We can note continuous disinterest from asylum seekers for acquiring protection in Montenegro. They seldom make an appearance on interviews designed to determine the situation that lead to leaving their origin country, although Ministry of Internal Affairs makes repeated calls to them”, it is stated in the Report on the Implementation of the Action Plan for Implementation of Strategy for Integrated Migration Management in Montenegro during 2015. This Report was drafted during yesterday’s Government session.
Translators are assigned to asylum seekers by the Directorate for Asylum.
“Directorate for Asylum has at its disposal at all times translation services for Arabic, French, Berber and English language, financed by UNHCR”, the statement reads.
Ministry of Internal Affairs outsources to court interpreters named by the Ministry of Justice for other languages.
When applying, asylum seekers are given a multilingual information guide about the process, their rights and obligations in Montenegro, as well as a map of the city with addresses of institutions relavant for their asylum request.
Those granted asylum in Montenegro have a right to a personal Identification Document and Travel Document, that is given by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“Directorate for Asylum is making continuous effort to investigate country origins of asylum seekers. Information on country of origin is used in procedures that determine the foundation for the asylum request or some other form of international protection”, the statement reads.
