Luksic said that, although the treaty has not entered into force yet, it has already had a significant influence in terms of banning nuclear tests in the signatory countries, as well as mitigating the effects of natural disasters through the unique verification regime and the International Monitoring System (IMS) applied by the organisation.
According to Zerbo, the importance of the organisation in preventing nuclear tests is very important, as well as in the fields of scientific research, climate change and the registering other natural disasters.
The CTBTO is headquartered in Vienna and was founded in 1996. The main tasks of the organisation are promoting the treaty and strengthening the verification regime in order to be fully operational when the treaty enters into force. Montenegro signed and ratified the treaty in 2006.
