Two critically ill patients placed on a ventilator

At a press conference organized today, chief ambulance officer, Mr Nermin Abdić, told 16 patients were admitted to the Clinical Center of Montenegro – 11 are hospitalized at the Infectious Disease Clinic and are feeling well. Two patients are treated in the semi-intensive care unit, while three needed intensive care – two are placed on a ventilator and are in a critical condition.

Mr Boban Mugoša, head of the Public Health Institute, noted that Montenegro keeps the epidemic under control. He thanked citizens for abiding by the measures, but stressed that we must not relax and should stick to all prescribed measures.

“I urge citizens to accept all the measures. We are lifting some of them, but require all others in place to be respected,” he was adamant.

Twenty-three healthcare workers infected with Covid-19

Since the coronavirus outbreak in MNE, Mr Abdić added, 47 patients have been admitted to the internal medicine clinic.

He noted that 23 healthcare works are infected with the virus, three of whom work at the Clinical Center.

We won’t ease lockdown measures too early

On the statement of the WHO director that “the worst is yet to come”, Mr Mugoša said that the sentence was partially taken out of context. “When speaking about lifting countermeasures, his warning is completely all right. Lifting restrictions too quickly might lead to a deadly resurgence.”

On the blood plasma treatment for Covid-19 patients

According to Mr Abadić, patients are being treated in line with the guidelines of the WHO.

“If the blood plasma treatment is to be introduced for Covid-19 patients, we’ll do it,” he underlined.

We performed the largest number of Covid-19 testing

Head of the Public Health Institute noted that Montenegro did the largest number of the coronavirus tests in the entire region.

“We expect to get new equipment these days and the testing procedure will be upgraded.”

We must learn to live with the virus

“We must practice distancing, take care of the elderly and people with chronic disease, be cautious about our personal hygiene and thus we’ll control the epidemic,” Dr Mugoša emphasized.
