UK added MNE to red list, hotels see rise in cancellations

Following the decision of the UK government to add Montenegro to the red list, guests of the hotels within the Budva-based Montenegrostars company returned to their homes earlier than planned, a co-owner of this hotel group, Zarko Radulovic, told Pobjeda daily.

“The news about the latest addition to the UK’s travel ban list still hasn’t been spread but the UK nationals have already started leaving Montenegro. We returned the money to those who had left and didn’t use all of their paid vacation days,” he said.

Mr Radulovic wouldn’t be surprised if the countries of the region decide to do the same, especially having in mind the recent PM Zdravko Krivokapic’s announcement that we might expect the number of infections to increase from 1 September.

He continued: “The problem is in us. If you look at the statistics showing that out of 760 infections, 45 are foreigners, it’s clear that it’s about local transmission because we didn’t get vaccinated and we could. We allowed gatherings where thousands were at one place for several hours, relaxed, drinking their beverages, and you can guess how the virus then spreads quickly.”
