There will be no salt harvest at Ulcinj-based Solana Bajo Sekulic salt pans, Ul-info news portal learns.
This is the fourth year in succession without sea salt harvest.
In the history of the oldest Ulcinj company, established in 1934, salt was not harvested only twice. Once it was in 1943 and the second time was in 1964, when long rains completely melted salt crystals.
Since August 2015, the salt pans have been managed by the National Parks of Montenegro, which was the only bidder at the tender call for leasing the company’s property.
In order to protect biodiversity, the National Parks shall take the necessary measures in order to maintain and improve the established ecosystem in the leased area.
In 2005, a programmed bankruptcy was introduced in Solana due to €13,000 debt. Six years later, a classic bankruptcy was introduced, which resulted in dismissing all workers.
