The Criminal Code of Montenegro envisages up to 15-year imprisonment for those accused of spying and disclosure of secret data. Two days ago, the media reported that the Montenegrin security services launched an investigation against two Montenegrin nationals, six Russian diplomats and around 30 Russian nationals, residing in Montenegro, on suspicion of collaborating with the Russian intelligence.
Both the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Security Agency took all the necessary actions that fall under their competence in order to shorten the residence of foreign nationals, but also prohibit them from entering the country.
“The action of the ANB identified the afore-mentioned persons as holders of the malignant influence in Montenegro, which was carried out for the interests of foreign services,” the ministry’s statement suggests.
Several apartments were searched as part of the investigation, whereas the ex-spokespersons of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radomir Sekulovic and Vladimir Belojevic, were apprehended. Six Russian diplomats were declared a persona non grata two days ago, while the expelled Serbia’s Ambassador, Vladimir Bozovic, is now prohibited from entering Montenegro on yesterday’s request of the ANB.
