The Montenegrin market will lack up to 25,000 seasonal workers this year, according to data from the Employment Office. Just before the beginning of this season, the question is whether Montenegro has enough seasonal workers, according to TVCG.
Qualified or not, the local workforce has been opting for seasonal work abroad for years. Both because of the higher salaries, which has also increased in Montenegro, and because of the contracts that last even in the off-season period, which the employers here cannot offer them.
And in the absence of domestic workforce, foreign workers are sought.
“If we take the data from last year, when 24,000 work permits for foreigners were issued, then we can say that this year our market will lack approximately that number – 24,000 to 25,000 workers, which will be expected to be replaced with people from abroad”, says Aleksandar Rakocevic of the Employment Office.
“We have taken the necessary steps to bring workers from distant countries, here I am primarily thinking of India”, Kaludjerovic adds.
In addition to the large number of workers from abroad, a great number of guests from the region also arrive. As English will be highly required, students arrive to fill some of the jobs during the summer at the last moment.
Final forecasts of how many workers will be missing this season, and how many will come from abroad, are expected at the end of April.
