Chief officer of the Forensic Center in Danilovgrad Zoran Tomcic, who has been performing his duties for 7 years, in his interview with Dnevne Novine, says the Forensic Center receives over 6,000 cases annually. This includes examining of over 20,000 samples, i.e. more than 70,000 investigative analyses. Bearing in mind the Forensic Center has 50 employees, the figures clearly speak about the scope of its work.
He added the Forensic Center has around 10 developed groups and each provides the necessary data, i.e. quality analysis and examination of all material traces, further submitted to the national police, prosecutor’s offices and courts.
“We manage to examine around 92%-93% of submitted cases, i.e. orders per annum. There are many requested related to the DNA search, which is the most complicated and complex, being performed in several phases. Police administration and prosecutor’s office often request DNA search for tracing criminals even for minor offences, whereas our priorities are indictable crimes, having a greater social importance as they cause greater social danger,” explained Tomcic.
