It is clear that Moscow will do everything it could to disturb democracy and discredit its representatives in all NATO countries, including the USA and Montenegro, Daniel Serwer, professor at the John Hopkins University and expert for South-eastern Europe, told Pobjeda, commenting on US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations’ latest document.
Democratic Senators requested from President Donald Trump, on 10 January, to treat foreign interference in elections as national crisis, to form a response coordination agency and define a new form of sanctions to quickly punish those responsible for interference.
Montenegro is mentioned in the Senate’s document as “a wake-up call for all other Balkan countries wishing to be part of the EU and NATO”.
Serwer said that due to the clear Russian pressure, US administration should offer Balkans much more than just documents. He said Montenegro was small and weak, due to internal minority opposition to its independence and NATO membership.
