Global security risks and threats are characteristic for the region, including Montenegro, announced the secretary of the National Security Council, Veselin Veljovic. He opened the International Seminar on Police Counterterrorism Units that was held in Budva.
Veljovic pointed out that international terrorism in all its forms, religious radicalism and extremism, corruption and money laundering, cross-border and organised crime, cyber crime, drug and human trafficking and illegal migration have been identified as threats to modern societies that no state can independently address. Therefore, these challenges require a common response of security services at the national, regional and international levels.
Veljovic also pointed out importance of prevention.
“Religious radicalism and organised crime are the most important security challenges for countries with a much higher degree of democracy development. However, they are also Montenegro’s priority when it comes to European integration processes and achieving standards and other civilising values. Confronting the aforementioned security challenges is one of the priorities in the work of state bodies, through a deliberate and comprehensive approach, in accordance with legal competencies,” Veljovic said.
The seminar was attended by representatives of special police units in Norway, France, Israel, the United States, Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro.
