Quibbling within parliamentary majority about the Law on Freedom of Religion represents tactical manoeuvring in the lead-up to the new government, Mr Zlatko Vujović, political analysts says. He thinks the government will be formed but doubts it will be stable.
“Only patriarch Irinej can agree with what DF has been insisting on”, Mr Vujović points out.
It is obvious, he notes, that the Serbian Orthodox Church, as one of the unofficial actors of the election coalition led by the DF, also wants a part of its cake. And that, understandably, affects the relations of not only that coalition, but also of the one that will rule Montenegro in the coming period.
And when it comes to positioning other subjects of the new majority in connection with this law, Mr Vujović believes that everyone must take care of their electorate. And the electorate of the URA does not support the moves that the Serbian Orthodox Church is implementing in Montenegro, regardless of the fact that they had a good result in Cetinje.
“I think that it is more tactical, trying to outplay someone, so that first of all the citizens, that is, the voters of those individual parties, are not disappointed with some moves that will be withdrawn,” Vujović pointed out.
He believes it would be logical to just change the articles of the law that were disputable for the Serbian Orthodox Church. But Mr Vujović reminds that this was actually the last offer of the DPS to the SOC. And all that raises a question.
“Why did the Serbian Orthodox Church participate in the elections, why were they part of one coalition, and now they are ready to accept what they were not ready for before the elections,” says Mr Vujović.
However, regardless of all disagreements, Mr Vujović believes that the new majority will form the Government.
“For the simple reason that the burden of failure would be too heavy for any actor, who would in some way, at least by the electorate, be assessed as someone who ruined the formation of government and is to blame for the failure of the entire project of the future government,” he said.
