Holding a referendum on whether Montenegro should join NATO is unnecessary and it would be a great expense, said Adrijan Vuksanović HGI for Dan daily.
Speaking of allocation of functions in negotiations with DPS, Vuksanović said HGI was never greedy but responsible, aware of the importance of the political moment in Montenegro.
“We asked for those functions where we can contribute to the prosperity. This is our continued attitude as the only representatives of Croatian people in Montenegro. We expect our agreement to be completed soon, which will improve the political and social scene in Montenegro”, he said.
He spoke about HGI’s issues with the opposition.
“There are political programs which we find acceptable, and those we do not. We expressed our attitude during the campaign. We would not give up on our beliefs for the sake of functions. We cannot backtrack on our promises”, Vuksanović was clear.
He believes NATO decision should be made in the Parliament.
“The elections demonstrated the will of the citizens, and they voted for those who were pro-NATO. Referendum would bring tensions and expense. HGI would be the happiest if there was no need for military alliances, but the reality is different. This matter is discussed emotionally, but it should be a rational decision”, he said.
Vuksanović does not believe that Croatia could block any chapter in Montenegro’s EU accession process.
“Croatia did not block the process, but it did not give agreement to opening Chapter 26 pertaining to culture and education. Some other countries did the same. I do not expect Zagreb to stand in the way. The matter of Prevlaka will probably be resolved amicably, which is especially pleasing to us Croatians in Montenegro”, Vuksanović said.
