At a press conference, Acting Director of the Police Administration, Lazar Scepanovic, has said police found 13.000 cannabis plants in a raid in Trnovo, which was a crackdown on organized crime. The estimated street value of cannabis plants is up to €10 million.
The Police Administration also stated the largest illegal cannabis farm in the Crmnica region was uncovered, while two men – Zlatko Maras, 40, from Zeta and Dragan Perovic, 65, from Bar – were arrested at the scene. Both have been held in custody for up to 72 hours.
“This is the largest haul of cannabis in Montenegro. The estimated value is around €4.5 million and the street value of €10 million,” Mr Scepanovic points out.
The growing area was equipped with industrial-scale lighting, irrigation and heating systems designed to maximaze production.
Asked by reporters how long the cannabis plant had been in operation and for which market, Mr Scepanovic said the police had detected this crime plan at an early stage and it didn’t have only national but a regional dimension.
Further investigations are underway, he concluded.
