Western Balkans is very important for the European Union. I will pledge my support to stable relations between WB countries and the EU, said the new European Commission president, Ms Ursula von der Leyen.
Ms Von der Leyen pointed out that reforms had to be implemented and that the door and the mind had to be open for WB .
When asked about the differences between the Eastern and the Western Europe and the concrete steps in that context, Ms von der Leyen said that she hadn’t decided yet.
“I am aware of the fact that there has to be geographical balance. That’s why I’m paying special attention to Central and Eastern Europe. I have to talk to the heads of states and governments. The emphasis will be put on this topic, count on that”, said the president of the European Commission.
Ms Ursula von der Leyen says she will certainly come back to Croatia, which will take over Presidency of the EU Council during the first half of 2020,
“I am determined to travel a lot because it’s very important – yes, to be in Brussels and Strasbourg – but also to go out and to see the different… not only capitals but also rural areas of the beautiful European Union”, said Ms von der Leyen.
