Who will govern Budva?

Opština Budva

Djordje Medin, the current Director of the Utility Company in Budva and the MP for the DPS, the President of the DPS Municipal Board in Budva, Srdja Popovic, and the Secretary in the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, Predrag Jelusic, have been mentioned as the strongest candidates for the position of the President of the Municipality of Budva.

According to unofficial information obtained by “Dnevne Novine”, the DPS has not yet decided who will be the new President of the Municipality, but there are few candidates.

“In the first version, the name of the President of the Municipal Board and the MP for the DPS, Srdja Popovic, was mentioned. However, he believes the position should be given to someone else”, a source from the DPS Municipal Board told “Dnevne Novine”.

Allegedly, Mr Popovic told his stance that he should not be the President of the Municipality of Budva to the President of the Party, Milo Djukanovic.

According to the source of “Dnevne Novine”, one of the most serious candidates is Djordje Medin, the current Director of the Utility Company in Budva.

However, daily “Pobjeda” has reported today that Mr Srdja Popovic is the most likely candidate for the new President of the Municipality of Budva.

Daily “Dan” has carried that the State Secretary of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, Predrag Jelusic, has also been mentioned as a candidate for a successor of Mr Lazar Radjenovic.

Mr Jelusic has told daily “Dan” that no one talked with him about that and that he has learnt the information from the journalist.

“Perhaps this is a possibility considered within the DPS, but if something is officially proposed, I will communicate my position on that,” Mr Jelusic said.

The current President of the Municipality of Budva, Lazar Radjenovic, was arrested last week in Budva with 12 current and former officials on suspicion of abuse of office. The investigation judge of the Higher Court in Podgorica, Radomir Ivanovic, ordered 30 day detention for him.

After that, Mr Radjenovic has offered his resignation to the DPS, stating he has made that out of moral reasons.

He became the head of the Municipality of Budva in 2011, after Rajko Kuljaca had been arrested due to “Zavala” case.
