The public in Montenegro has been wondering these days why there’s a drop in the number of coronavirus testing, not being sure whether it’s about faking data or tests shortage.
Since the beginning of this week, the number of people tested for the coronavirus has been somewhat lower – below 2.000 every day, which was not the case for weeks on end. By comparing the weekly data, one can easily spot that the number of people tested for Covid-19 is dropping. Over the past seven days (from 21 to 27 March) an average of 1.750 people got tested, while the week before (from 14 to 20 March) a total of 2.020 people had gotten tested.
Therefore, the average number of the tested has been lower by around 270 people on a daily basis in only seven days, that is, about 13 per cent.
Even though there’s an intention to show that the epidemiological sitiation is getting better by publishing data on the lower number of new cases (as there are less people tested), the share of total infections in the total number of people who got tested is at the same level.
Recall, the head of the Public Health Institute, Dr Igor Galić, told the press on 11 March that the percentage of people tested positive for the virus must be below 5 per cent to be able to say that we keep the epidemic under control.
According to available data, Montenegro is not coping best with the epidemic, as the situation is extremely alarming and the country is in a delicate phase of its coronavirus battle.
