Firefighters and emergency services in Montenegro continued battling wildfires overnight across multiple locations. Active fires remain in areas around Podgorica—such as Kuci, Piperi, and Smokovac—as well as in coastal towns like Canj and Buljarica. Road access to Smokovac has been cut off.
Thanks to domestic and international support, including aircraft from Croatia, Italy, and Serbia, many fires are now largely under control. Croatian and Italian planes dropped about 300 tons of water on coastal fires, while helicopters from Serbia and local firefighting teams played a key role in inland operations.
Fires remain active but contained in Danilovgrad, Bijelo Polje, and Savnik, with additional efforts underway in Niksic. More help is expected today, including rescue teams from Austria and a firefighting helicopter from Hungary.
Authorities urge the public to report any fire sightings or suspicious behaviour and remind citizens that lighting fires and using fireworks is strictly prohibited during high-risk conditions.
