The high-ranking official of Vladimir Putin’s United Russia, Sergey Zeleznyak, announced another Moscow’s interference in the Balkan politics and internal matters of Montenegro. During his meeting with the leadership of the Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic’s party, he said that Russia could see the strong pressure coming from the USA and NATO on the “Serbian world” and Balkans as a whole. He said he was “concerned about the dramatic events in Montenegro and Macedonia”, Pobjeda writes.
According to Serbian media citing United Russia’s statement, Zeleznyak also said his party was supporting the writing of the declaration on preserving the Serbian national identity and that it was prepared to take “a highly active role in its writing”.
“The party proposes preparing declaration, along with the parties from the Balkan countries, which will be aimed at preserving the Serbian national identity, culture, language and Cyrillic alphabet,” Zeleznyak said.
This Putin’s close associate said that his party was ready to participate most actively in developing an appropriate document in cooperation with State Duma, the International Committee of the Duma, and groups of friendship with the parliaments of the Balkan states.
“We support the efforts of Serbian colleagues in making this declaration. For our part, we are ready to do everything possible to provide party and political support in order to make the content of this document known to the world public,” Zeleznyak said.
He has become known to the Montenegrin public for the past several years through direct interference in the internal affairs of our country and statements beyond normal political and diplomatic communication.
He is known to be fiercely against Montenegrin NATO membership. After the US Vice President Mike Pence invited Montenegrin opposition to return to Parliament, Zeleznyak advised it to continue the boycott.
