Luksic indirectly hinted that he would leave his position in his interview with MINA news agency in early March this year, when he said he would not seek the party function regardless the fact that he served as the vice president of DPS in that period. It was a signal of distancing himself from the developments in the party to which he belongs.
Although there were speculations among politicians that Luksic would leave this ministerial post because he would be appointed to an international function, Pobjeda’s sources claim that there are no concrete indications of such a scenario for the time being.
As potential new Luksic’s position, sources close to the minister mentioned a post in the World Bank or in the United Nations, but also in the development programme for former European prime ministers.
When it comes to his results, Luksic will be remembered as foreign minister during whose mandate Montenegro achieved one of its greatest strategic state goals – invitation for NATO membership. Montenegro opened a large number of chapters with the EU while he was a foreign minister.
However, the fact is that the main role in international relations of Montenegro was played by the president of the DPS and Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic and it seems that Luksic himself is aware that he was a part of the team, but not the player without whom it could not be.
At the same time, the former vice president of the DPS had a significant number of opponents within his own party, because many people accused him of trying to push his protégés in the party leadership “not obeying an order”.
Thus, appearing in the TV show “Ziva Istina”, Luksic said that, unlike the DPS’s leadership, he would have nothing against the idea of forming a technical cabinet that would deal exclusively with the election procedure.
“The DPS has no reason to shy away from any solution which may be a result of a political agreement. If the result of a political agreement is forming some kind of a technical cabinet, which will take responsibility only in the organisation of elections, in my opinion the DPS has no reason to avoid this scenario, because according to all opinion polls, party is supported by 40-45% citizens. It means that after the implementation of that type of modalities for preparing and organising elections, it is absolutely legitimate to form a government in which, I am sure, the DPS would be a key factor,” Luksic said.
