Montenegrin president Filip Vujanovic has awarded the Medal of Montenegro to NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg.
Before the ceremony of raising the Montenegrin flag in front of the NATO headquarters, Vujanovic talked to Stoltenberg and thanked him for his support.
“Vujanovic reiterated the importance of Montenegro’s accession for the Western Balkans and pointed out that Montenegro was ready to support the region’s European and Euro-Atlantic perspective,” Vujanovic’s office said in the statement.
Stoltenberg said that this day was important not only for Montenegro, but also for NATO membership since it confirmed open-door policy.
“Montenegro will certainly contribute to promoting the values and principles of NATO in the region,” he added.
