Gjenero: Russia needs to back down

Montenegro today marks the first anniversary of its membership in NATO and becoming the 29th member country of the Alliance. Political observer from Zagreb, Davor Gjenero, claims there’s no doubt NATO brought stability in Montenegro.

“NATO speeds up the accession to the European Union (EU) and I hope this year you’ll make progress in closing chapters. It seems to me MNE has worked toward a collective security although it’s still very weak,” Gjenero told CdM.

Montenegro’s NATO membership will diminish Russia’s influence in this country, according to him. “Russia needs to back off as now Montenegro is the NATO member state, just as Poland and other Baltic states are. Better to do it by herself and not to repeat the Poland scenario,” Gjenero clearly pointed out.

NATO undoubtedly contributes to economic growth, but it’s up to MNE to use it. “At first, Croatian administration didn’t want to deal with that but now we finally feel the benefits. Actually, we have several companies which develop military programs and those companies are pretty successful in their business. Croatia now fully enjoys the benefits of NATO membership,” emphasized Gjenero.

There’s no dilemma Montenegro is now part of a collective security system, concluded Gjenero.
