Montenegro’s tourism figures keep growing

Total number of tourists who visited Montenegro and stayed in collective accommodation exceeded one million, according to the preliminary data provided by the National Statistical Office of Montenegro.

By the end of September, a total of 1.079.186 arrivals have been recorded, and that’s 16,4% more than in the same month last year. As far as the overnights are concerned, there were 4.188.541 overnight stays and counting.

Compared with the first nine months of the last year, this years’ results are 9,5% better. In addition, 980.460 tourists from abroad contributed to physical indicators of Montenegro’s tourism with 3.786.944 overnight stays.

Thanks to results recorded in September, average stays in hotels reached 3,88 nights, confirming the growth trend. Guests stayed in the seaside region for the longest period of time with average of 4,53 nights.

Shortest stays were recorded in Andrijevica (1,24 nights). Less than two overnights were recorded in almost every town in the north of Montenegro. In the seaside region, Kotor and Tivat still hold the record for shortest stays (2,72 and 2,93 nights). Budva comes third with an average of 4,52 nights. Herceg Novi has recorded the best result, with 5,35 overnights per tourist.

The duration of tourists’ stays is still the longest in Rožaje, with every hotel guest staying for 5,8 nights on average. Hotels in Gusinje have had only 527 tourists, whereas hotels in Plav welcomed foreigners only.

Almost 40% of all tourists registered in collective accommodation stayed in Budva, around 43.682, and they made more than 46% of overnight stays. Budva is followed y Herceg Novi, with 133.660 hotel guests and 714.907 overnight stays, Ulcinj, with 77.271 guests and 391.559 overnight stays and Bar, with 67.679 tourists and 357.942 overnight stays.

Collective accommodation was mostly used by tourists from Serbia and Russia. (10,5%, 9,13%). Around 78.298 tourists came from Germany, from France – 62.708 and UK- 51.841.

Chinese come fifth according to the number of tourists. Around 54.731 Chinese tourists stayed in Montenegrin hotels.

As far as the overnights are concerned, Russia dominates, with 599.381 overnight stays. It’s followed by Serbia (500.300), France (312.159), Germany (264.249) and United Kingdom (257.613).
