3,000 workers engaged at the largest construction site in Montenegro

Bar-Boljare highway is now the largest construction site in Montenegro and one of the largest in the region, and it engages about 3,000 employees, Chinese company CRBC stated for Dnevne Novine.

The chief contractor of the Smokovac-Matesevo priority section has stressed that the dynamics of construction are in line with its plans. The water supply project is now underway and the permanent power supply project is in its final stage, the company stated.

CRBC explains that the Smokovac loop is planned as a connection between the Bar-Boljare highway and the future Adriatic-Ionian highway, as well as the connection to the main road Podgorica-Kolasin.

At the site, 1,162 workers from Montenegro are currently employed, including subcontractors. Local companies have shown their full readiness and expertise to work on such a demanding construction project, and engagement on this project is a significant experience and a great reference for them, Chinese contractor believes.

For works on the construction of the Bar-Boljare priority section, a total of €176.3m was spent last year, which is 97.7 per cent of the funds planned by the capital budget, according to official figures of the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs.
