Ahead of the EU–Western Balkans Summit in Tivat, EU Ambassador to Montenegro Johann Sattler said the key message of the gathering is that the Western Balkans has no closer partner than the European Union. He stressed that EU integration brings tangible benefits to citizens through trade, investment, cooperation, and improved living standards.
Sattler highlighted that Montenegro is hosting the summit for the first time, welcoming more than 30 European and regional leaders. He described the event as recognition of Montenegro’s progress as the most advanced EU candidate country, particularly over the past two years, while also calling for continued political unity and commitment to reforms needed to complete the accession process.
The ambassador thanked Montenegro’s citizens for their strong support, perseverance, and patience on the country’s European path, expressing confidence that the shared effort will lead to a successful European future.
