The Movement for neutrality made a performance in front of the Parliament today, demonstrating an execution of a citizen who was tied up and with covered face. Thus, they sent a message that citizens of Montenegro do not need NATO.
On that occasion, the Atlantic Alliance said that Movement for Neutrality proved the lack of arguments against Montenegro’s membership in NATO by the performance.
“In recent period, opponents of joining NATO have exercised their right of expression by a variety of theatrical acts. Today we have had the chance to see the performance of the Movement for Neutrality in which they tried to compromise the idea of joining NATO by simulating execution by ISIL members. Previously, we saw a group of people who burned the flag of NATO, believing that this would compromise further integration process”, the Atlantic Alliance stressed.
They pointed out that this was a continuation of a smear campaign led by opponents of NATO, i.e. opponents of prosperity and security. As they said they expected the campaign to be even dirtier.
The Atlantic Alliance strongly condemns all activities aimed at the destabilisation of society.
“One should wonder why an NGO provokes the Islamic State in this way. The answer is obvious – if there are any security threats caused by ISIL on Montenegrin territory or against its nationals, they will finally be able to justify their views. It is obvious that the performance of execution in a public place in order to challenge the most important foreign policy issue of Montenegro represents an extremely ruthless and heinous act, the only effect of which was frightening children and passers-by”, the Alliance communicated in its response.
The Atlantic Alliance added that they understood that the Movement for Neutrality had to justify the funds they had received to challenge the process of joining NATO, but that they did not expect them to be ready to jeopardise the safety of the citizens in order to achieve their goal.
“It is clear whose interest is to fund the idea of neutrality of Montenegro through this and similar projects,” the Alliance concluded in its response.
