Folk singer Baja Mali Knindza, known for his nationalist and controversial repertoire, could reportedly perform in Pljevlja by the end of May, with unofficial sources mentioning 21 May — Montenegro’s Independence Day — as a possible concert date. While rumours about the event have circulated for days, local authorities and institutions have neither confirmed nor denied the reports, according to Vijesti.
A source close to the local government said discussions are underway regarding a concert by the singer, whose real name is Mirko Pajcin, and that holding the performance on the 20th anniversary of Montenegro’s independence has not been ruled out.
Officials from the Municipality of Pljevlja have not responded to media inquiries, leaving it unclear who may be organising the event. Mayor Dario Vranes, a member of New Serbian Democracy, has previously drawn criticism for statements praising the Chetnik movement.
Police unofficially stated that no public gathering related to the concert has been registered so far.
Baja Mali Knindza rose to prominence during the 1990s with songs glorifying Serbian nationalism and wartime rhetoric. Some of his lyrics have been widely criticised as hate speech, including songs containing offensive messages about Bosniaks. His repertoire also includes songs praising Chetnik leader Momcilo Djujic, as well as convicted war criminals Radovan Karadzic and Vojislav Seselj.
Last year, the singer received the First-Class Order of Njegos during celebrations marking the Serb Republic Day.
