A group of bakeries at the Chamber of Commerce has sent a proposal to retail stores suggesting to have the price of white bread loaf 58 cent (no VAT included) as of 1 January, that is, 70 cent in retail, noting that the government’s decision to freeze prices of bread is to expire on 31 December, Director of Uniprom bakery and Deputy President of the group, Vesko Nikolic, told Pobjeda daily, adding that he’d submit the same proposal to the relevant ministry.
He expects to have a meeting on this topic with traders and representatives of the ministries of capital investments, economic development and agriculture during next week. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economic Development has confirmed to Pobjeda that they plan to have a meeting with bakers.
Mr Nikolic has also added that they haven’t increased the cost of white bread loaf since August, noting that privately owned bakeries are still to decide on the matter. According to him, traders understand their proposal and believe that price increase is realistic, noting that the ministries need to inform the public about it.
