Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Vesna Bratic and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Aleksandar Stijovic were not granted honorary Montenegrin citizenship at the suggestion of legally authorized proposers, which calls into question their validity, says Damir Suljevic, an associate at the Civic Education Center (CGO), for Pobjeda.
He explains that the Law on Montenegrin Citizenship allows the acquisition of honorary citizenship for those persons whose admission to Montenegro is of special importance for the state, scientific, economic, cultural, economic, sports and other interests of Montenegro, but also points out that it stipulates who can be the proposer.
Suljevic recalls that the CGO previously pointed to the fact that in the period from the adoption of the Law on Citizenship in 2008 until the end of 2020, as many as 390 people, according to the data the CGO has, were granted “honorary” Montenegrin citizenship.
