Bauxite workers waiting for a meeting with Pejovic

Gathering for the umpteenth time in the administrative building of the company in order to jointly agree on further steps, miners, although obviously dissatisfied, decided to be patient and wait to see which measures Pejovic will take when he officially takes over Bauxite Mines.

Representatives of the Trade Union and the Independent Union are more optimistic than workers and hope that Pejovic will “do the right thing and leave the miners in their workplace”.

“We conveyed to workers the views of the president of the Commercial Court, Blazo Jovanić, expressed a few days ago during our meeting. We told them about his expectation that by the end of this month, the money for workers’ claims will be paid and the contract with Pejovic signed. We told them Jovanić promised to be the mediator of our meeting with Pejovic”, said representative of the Independent Trade Unions, Nikola Žugić.

Workers expect the situation will be clearer when they sit at the table with Pejovic and finally get an answer whether any or how many of them will be employed in November.

“We expect Pejovic will talk with us about our future in the Bauxite Mines. It remains to be seen how these talks will go. The judge of the Commercial Court was optimistic about resuming production, and that a large number of workers who remained in company will have jobs with the new owner… All this is expected by the end of this or early next month”, said Žugić.

President of the Trade Union, Ilija Đilas, also expects the situation will become favorable for workers.

“I hope most of the workers will be employed. We will demand that all workers who stayed are employed. The mood amongst workers is still negative because they do not know what will happen in the coming period. But we will persevere and we hope to reach an agreement”, said Djilas.
Union representatives said the next assembly of workers will be held after the meeting with Pejovic.
