Montenegro has become a full-fledged member of the CMS experiment, one of the biggest LHC experiments in CERN, which means that Montenegrin scientist will become a part of the international scientific community.
The Ministry of Science stated that five young researchers from Montenegro are set to start their projects in CERN next week.
Young scientists will have many possibilities. They will be able to cooperate with experts from all over the world.
“Large Hadron Collider – LHC, with its accompanying infrastructure, detectors and computer systems is not only the biggest scientific experiment in world, and the most complex machine of today. Membership in the CMS experiment will enable researchers to work as engineers, machine engineers, electronic engineers and IT specialists. International cooperations and membership in scientific institutions has political significance, especially in the context of EU integration. CERN is the only scientific institution that is a member of the UN”, the Ministry stated.
Research group from Montenegro was represented by a professor of Natural and Mathematical Sciences Natasa Raicevic.
The Compact Muon Solenoid – CMS is one of the most complex scientific projects. It was in the focus of international attention in 2012, due to discovery of Higgs boson. There are 4.000 scientists, engineers and students in CERN. CERN was founded in 1954, and 22 countries are members.
