At a news conference held earlier today, the President of the Podgorica City Assembly, Jelena Borovinic Bojovic, has stated she resigned as the head of that body.

“The public already knows a new political reality has emerged in the Capital City Assembly. Representatives of the ruling majority, along with other political actors, have acknowledged that the parliament now consists of three political blocs – the ruling coalition that won in the 2024 elections, the opposition made up of parties of the former regime, and the DNP, which left the governing majority and joined the opposition ranks,” Ms Borovinic Bojovic said.

However, as she noted, the newly emerged situation has yet to receive formal confirmation, as no new political agreements have been reached.

“This has created a political vacuum, and even after some time, the opposition continues to operate in a state of status quo,” she said.

“The opposition has recognised this as an opportunity to systematically wear down the political landscape and further complicate the functioning of the local parliament.”

She added that they had also witnessed a clear intention on the part of the opposition to become part of the ruling majority.

“Considering the new political reality and following discussions and consultations I held within the ruling coalition with my colleagues, I have decided – in order to prevent this mandate and the leadership of the city parliament from turning into a circus or a platform for political manoeuvring, and with the aim of clarifying the situation – to inform the public that I’m resigning as the President of the Capital City Assembly,” Jelena Borovinic Bojovic concluded.
