The SD Digital Team has launched a campaign titled “Ask Ivan” on the social network Facebook. It was has been announced that the campaign will last for several days, and that Mr Brajovic will personally answer questions about his political activities, political situation in Montenegro, as well as the programme of his party.
Among first citizens who asked questions, Stevan Milivojevic, the outgoing director of the LGBT Forum Progress and a member of the Government’s Council for Protection against Discrimination, wanted to know what Mr Brajovic’s position was regarding the Pride Parade in Niksic and LGBT community in general.
“The very commitment of our party to fostering social democratic values says enough about our attitude towards LGBT people. We, the Social Democrats, are not inclined to divide and label people on any grounds, including sexual orientation. In the Statute of our party, we have defined as a basic principle ”respect for a human being, his/her dignity, rights and freedoms, regardless of their ethnic or religious affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, social status, political affiliation or other characteristics”, Mr Brajovic replied.
He believes, and points out that it has also been his party’s position that LGBT people should enjoy all the rights enjoyed by the rest of the population in Montenegro.
He also emphasised that no orientation, including sexual, should be a reason for putting anyone into an inferior position.
“As for the banning of the Pride Parade in Niksic, I can say that I am concerned about the reasons for the ban. I am concerned about the fact that Montenegrin society is partly so aggressively against this event. I am concerned about information on various types of threats, which have led to banning the event by the police, according to security assessment. I believe that the institutions of the system shall allow and ensure a safe conducting of each duly registered gathering”, Mr Brajovic said.
