Buljevic: Montenegro’s joining NATO improves relations with Croatia

He also believes that the Croatian Parliament would be among the first to ratify the agreement on Montenegro’s accession to the Alliance, MINA news agency carried.

Asked by reporters whether the fact that Montenegro is close to NATO can change the relations between the two countries, including unresolved territorial issues, Buljevic said that the relations could only be improved.

“I believe that all barriers between Croatia and Montenegro would be solved in a friendly atmosphere. In fact, when you look realistically, we do not have big issues,” Buljevic told reporters after the meeting of defence ministers of NATO member states, which is being held in Brussels today and tomorrow.

He believes that Montenegro will not wait long to ratify the agreement on joining the Alliance.

“I am sure you will not wait long. I expect that you will sign the protocol as soon as in April. After that, everything will go by default. It is already established, unstoppable process. I think, within a year or maximum a year and several months, you will have the ratification completed and will enter NATO,” said Buljevic.

He also believes that the Croatian Parliament would be among the first to ratify theagreement on Montenegro’s accession to NATO.

“For Croatia, the alliance with Montenegro is one of the priorities. From the beginning we have supported Montenegro in Euro-Atlantic integration. I think that joining NATO is just the beginning Euro-Atlantic path of Montenegro. Croatian government and the whole of Croatia strongly supports Montenegro on its path towards NATO and the European Union,” added Buljevic.
