The proposal of a group of NGOs to omit questions on ethnicity, religion and mother tongue from the census in Montenegro has been rejected. This is stated in the Report on the conducted public debate on the occasion of the Draft Law on the Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in 2021, organized by the Ministry of Finance and Social Welfare. At the same time, the proposal to delete 2021 from the title and text of the Draft Law has been accepted, which raises the question of whether the census will be held this year at all.
The explanation of the group of NGOs that suggested omitting the collection of these data states that issues of ethnicity, religion and mother tongue can negatively affect the quality of other data in the current social atmosphere.
