The proposal of a group of non-governmental organisations to specify sexual orientation in the next Montenegro census has been rejected, suggests the Report on carried out public debate related to the 2021 draft census law, organised by the Ministry of Finance and Social Welfare.
The justification of a group of NGOs (DAMAR, CDT, StarsUP, CEDEM, Juventas and CeMI) which proposed to collect these data, says that they need the information on sexual orientation in order to be able to plan policies in the area of education, social and health protection, recruitment, as well as the policies promoting equality, more adequately.
On the other hand, the justification of the Ministry of Finance and Social Welfare, refusing the proposal, points out to the recommendations of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, UNECE, which say this is a sensitive issue.
