Cerar: I personally insisted that Montenegro should be accepted in NATO

„When I spoke to leaders of the countries that are members of EU and NATO I personally insisted that Montenegro should be accepted in NATO this year. You have big chances to receive the invitation this year. I expected it to happen in Wales, but that was too soon and now is the right time”, he said.

Asked to comment on the region of Western Balkans nowadays, he said that after a difficult period of war and all the crimes and suffering it is very important that “we reached this level of stability”.

„I can say that Montenegro is one of the countries that is a good example of how we should move forward. It is dedicated to development, it is trying to have good relations with neighbours and is doing pretty good job with that. We see Montenegro as a model of the country that is looking ahead and opening itself to the world. We are aware that there is some instability happening in Macedonia, and now in Bosnia and Herzegovina too, and I think it is very important that European Union doesn’t forget about the Balkans. I personally keep repeating that on all meetings with members of EU. Process of joining, which will last for a couple of years, is key to development of this region”, he added.

He said that he and his wife chose to spend vacation in Montenegro this year.

„We were already aware of the beauties of your country, but this time it was exquisite, we had a chance to see everything once again, places like Perast, Kotor, Budva. We are very happy that you are open again and that you are using potentials and paying enough attention to the environment along the way. I wouldn’t judge the destination, but I can tell you that we are very happy with the beauty and the kindness of the people, professionality on places where it matters, and of course I am quite happy that you welcomed the investors. I am familiar with the discussions regarding investors in Montenegro. We had same issues too, because that’s a sensitive area, but without those investors it is simply impossible. Not Montenegro, nor Slovenia have enough capital to create elite tourism without investors. Montenegro is choosing its investors wisely and they should be nurtured”, emphasized Cerar.
