Citizens of the Western Balkans need EU stimulus

Bregu

While everybody’s waiting for the official decision of the high-level meeting of the European Council on opening accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia to be rendered, for us in the Regional Cooperation Council, and for the entire region, it is crucial to reiterate that Western Balkans is a constituent part of the EU, said in Sarajevo today Secretary General of the RCC, Ms Majlinda Bregu.

“European integration process should move forward. Effects of negative decision will be devastating for the region. For the first time since the pro-European attitude has started to be measured, 56% of WB citizens supported European integration. That indicates that this process isn’t for politicians, bur for citizens. Citizens need stimulus”, said Ms Bregu.

Ms Bregu pointed out that fulfillment of duties is essential when it comes to the implementation of Multi-Annual Action Plan for Regional Economic Area and other reform programs for economies.

“We must not allow bilateral relations to spill over to the entire process of regional cooperation which progresses when there’s political will. Regional cooperation is the key element of European perspective of WB. It is important that regional initiatives encompass all WB partners and that they are based on assumed responsibilities”, said Ms Bregu.

EU representatives congratulated The Council on impressive results achieved so far. They said European Commission supported all the initiatives of the Council, provided that they “are comprehensive and do not spoil the work of existing initiatives”.

Ms Bregu presented to the Committee her new deputy, Ms Tanja Miščević,  who assumed office on 9 October.

“Although I am new in the organization, I am very experienced in the European integration process and I am ready to share my experience with the members of RCC”, said Ms Miščević.

Today’s meeting was “colored” in pink, as sign of support for breast cancer patients and contribution to raising awareness of this widely-spread disease.
